Throughout the world, as well as in Belarus, the annual number of newly diagnosed malignant neoplasms is growing. The active involvement of psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and psychologists in the process of treating and rehabilitating patients is a necessary part of successful antitumor therapy, since the mental state of patients affects both the course of cancer and their quality of life. The following literature review presents abstracts of articles for the «psycho-oncology»search query from the Pubmed database. For December 2019, the number of those articles was 5597, 2601 of which had been published during the last 5 years (starting from 2014). The review includes the latest data on the molecular mechanism and the effects of stress on the tumour progression, the spectrum and prevalence of mental disorders in cancer patients, the most valid tools for their screening and diagnosis, as well as possible methods of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical therapy.
