Alexithymia is a personality trait that is characterized by difficulty to distinguish and describe emotions. Emotional intelligence –- ability to understand the emotional part of human life. It is the capability to perceive, understand, anticipate and assess the variability of emotions, as well as express emotions correctly according to situation and use them to provide adaptive and creative thinking style. «Theory of Mind» includes capability to draw conclusions about intentions, beliefs, and emotions of others. According to the literature, the higher the level of alexithymia is the lower ability to understand the feelings and motives of other people. Various studies show that the presence of alexithymia may be a trigger for physical and mental disorders, particularly for psychosomatic disorders such as skin pathology. This review contains results of research in the field of alexithymia and emotional intelligence in patients with skin pathology.
