Earlier we analyzed psychoemotional characteristics of women, who were pregnant in April – May 1986 and, therefore, got doses to the thyroid gland due to iodine radionuclides after Chernobyl accident. The aim of this work was to assess the psychoemotional characteristics of a women group (n = 35), who were exposed to radioiodine, but were not pregnant at that time. These women were assigned to the control group. The severity of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) was analyzed using a self-reporting technique using the PCL-S questionnaire. The degree of psychological distress was determined using the K-6 questionnaire. The relationship analysis of post-traumatic stress disorder and psychological distress was performed. The factor structure with the contribution assessment of latent factors, as well as inter-factor relationships were studied. A correlation was found between most PTSD factors and psychological distress, which in turn may indicate the possibility of a causal relationship between the women psychological status and the risk of somatic pathology in them.
