Symbrachydactyly is a congenital anomaly of the hand development, manifested by many clinical signs, including brachydactyly, syndactyly and hand hypoplasia. The phenotypic manifestations of symbrachydactyly are very variable. Despite the existence of a large number of classification schemes of pathology (taking into account the number of lost rays, teratological mechanisms of hypoplasia, the functional state of the thumb of the hand, and the presence of concomitant anomalies), there is currently no generally accepted definition of the term symbrachydactyly. In this regard, in each classification, simbrachydactyly is considered from different positions. The aim of this work was to systematize the available data regarding the issue of defining concept of symbrachydactyly, as well as optimizing classification approaches to the description of this pathological condition.
