Using of physical exercise is one of the effective ways to treat mild to moderate depression. The aim of this study was to investigate the basic level of physical activity and motivation to exercise in patients with depression. The survey method and the Global Physical Activity Questionnaire (GPAQ) were used.83 patients were interviewed (10 men and 73 women, mean age 37 [32;58] years). The patients performed exercise under the instructor supervision as an adjuvant therapy of depression. We analyzed level of motivation to exercise and the approaches to improve it. At the end of the treatment, the patients were interviewed for the effect of exercise on their general condition, level of physical stamina, and their plans for physical activity in the future. A low level of physical activity was revealed in activity at work and recreational activities. A high level of sedentary behavior was revealed. A positive attitude towards exercise as a medical procedure was formed in the course of the realized therapy.
