Conducting scientific and medical research using laboratory animals and the subsequent extrapolation of the results to the human body largely determines the success of modern medicine. This article presents the data of comparative morphology of the animals aortic media. Morphometric analysis of the aortic media of adult rats and dogs was carried out. The aortic media has the same structure in different species of animals, but there are some differences. The article presents the data of comparative morphological analysis. The quantitative characteristics such as the thickness of the aortic media, the number of smooth muscle cells and lamellar units, the width of the elastic membranes were studied. Their comparative analysis was carried out and differences in the structure of the aortic media of rats and dogs were revealed. The obtained qualitative and quantitative characteristics should be taken into account when choosing a laboratory animal for the experiment.
