Nutrition is one of the key factors in the harmonious development of children and adolescents. Clinical manifestations of inadequate nutrition are alimentary-dependent diseases, such as overweight and obesity, malnutrition, deficiency of vitamins and microelements. The paper discusses the classification of malnutrition in children in a historical aspect and provides information on the international standards of growth and development of children and adolescents of the World Health Organization, as well as the WHO malnutrition criteria in childhood. These scientific data became the basis for the development of the clinical protocol “Organization nutrition by protein-energy malnutrition (children population)” approved by Resolution № 109 of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus of December 20, 2017.
