Gut microbiota brain axis and neurodegenerative diseases
In the focus of this review are dementia and Alzheimer's disease (AD) in connection with the intensive spread of these socially significant neurodegenerative diseases throughout the world, what is regarded by WHO as a rapidly growing epidemic. The concept and mechanisms of the rela-tionship of the intestinal microbiota with the brain on the bilateral axis "gut-microbiota-brain" in the pathogenesis of dementia and AD are discussed.
