Information on the global situation on poliomyelitis, detected polioviruses (PV), strategy of vaccinoprophylaxis and laboratory containment of PV are presented. The analysis of implementation of final stage of global polio eradication in the Republic of Belarus is done. It is shown that polio surveillance in the Republic of Belarus is in a full agreement with WHO criteria. Identification of isolated viruses confirms that they are represented by vaccine PVs, Coxsackie viruses, ECHO viruses, adenoviruses. No wild or vaccine derived PV have been isolated. In April 2016 the use of the oral polio vaccine was stopped and the transition to a 4-dose vaccination with inactivated polio vaccine was done in Belarus. All necessary measures to ensure the laboratory containment of PV are caring out.
