The risk syndrome for first psychosis is a new concept in contemporary psychiatry and is a reflection of the “prodrome” schizophrenia. Polymorphisms of the serotonin transporter (5- HTTLPR) associated with the development of several mental disorders, including schizophrenia. This polymorphism was studied on the example of the Belarusian population in groups of clinically high risk for psychosis subjects and healthy individuals. No significant differences were found in the distribution of alleles or genotypes between the groups. An association of polymorphism of the serotonin transporter gene (5-HTTLPR) with cognitive functioning tests on batteries CANTAB was found. S allele carriers performed worse in visual memory, reaction speed, executive functions, the rapid visual information processing and working memory tasks, as well as greater impulsivity in decision-making.
