Полвека – это достаточно продолжительный срок для того, чтобы оглянуться назад и оценить пройденный путь. Со дня создания 1-й кафедры детских болезней началась история высшего педиатрического образования в Беларуси. В 1964 г. в Минском государственном медицинском институте был открыт педиатрический факультет. Инициатором его организации был доктор медицинских наук, заслуженный деятель науки БССР, лауреат Государственной премии Республики Беларусь, профессор Иван Нестерович Усов (13.10.1921–19.01.1994), ученик В. А. Леонова. В 1968 году под его руководством была организована кафедра факультетской педиатрии с курсом пропедевтики детских болезней (с 1984 г. – 1-я кафедра детских болезней) педиатрического факультета Минского медицинского института.

Half a century is quite a long time in order to look back and assess the distance traveled. From the day of the creation of the 1st Department of Children's Diseases, the history of higher pediatric education in Belarus began. In 1964, the pediatric faculty was opened at the Minsk State Medical Institute. The initiator of his organization was Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Scientist of the BSSR, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus, Professor Ivan Nesterovich Usov (13.10.1921–19.01.1994), student of V. A. Leonov. In 1968, under his leadership, the Department of Faculty Pediatrics with a course of propedeutics of children's diseases (since 1984 - the 1st Department of Children's Diseases) of the Pediatric Faculty of the Minsk Medical Institute was organized.
