New data on individual peculiarities of sphenoid bone structure in the area of sella turcica were obtained. Thus, foramen clinoideocaroticum was detected in 5 osseous specimens out of the 42 examined specimens (12%). Morphological particulars and morphometric parameters of this foramen were established. During the study of specimens with preserved dura mater, the possible causes of foramen clinoideocaroticum formation – an anomaly of sphenoid bone development in the area of sella turcica in adult humans – were found. The results of this research should be implemented in clinical practice for proper interpretation of the results of instrumental examinations of the brain (computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, cerebral angiography), as well as in surgical treatment of the brain.
